IELTS Listening
The IELTS Listening test has four sections. Each section gets more difficult. There would be totally 40 questions, and 10 questions in each section. The test takes around 30 minutes for you to complete, after you will have 10 minutes to transfer the answers to the answer sheet.
What are the skills required for Listening?
You will be assessed on your ability to understand, together with how you will develop your ideas, comprehending information in detail, the opinions and perspective of speakers and the reason for the comment. To achieve a band score of 9 in IELTS Listening you need to be perfect.
1. Things that will help you prepare for the Listening section
To develop your Listening skills, preparation is the most important step. You would need to regularly listen to English Language for you to better understand it. For starters, you should listen to the English News Channels, Songs, podcasts or watch English movies. It helps you to gain an insight, as to what you can anticipate if you were living in an English-speaking country. Vocabulary is one of the most important things in IELTS. You can be provided new vocabulary on a regular basis. Listening should be practiced daily.
2. How to enhance your Listening Band score?
One important method is active listening, by listening to a lot of conversations from different sources. This will help introduce you to new vocabulary and varied accents. When you listen actively to something, you will take in less information, but think about it in a much deeper way. This deep way of thinking about what you are listening to, means you learn in a much more effective and efficient way. Examples of active listening are pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and structure. Other ways to help you to improve your band score is to not lose your concentration and follow the instructions carefully. Besides that, familiarise yourself with the different question types. Practice listening to things only once, since in the exam you will hear the recording only once. You can also pay attention to words that are stressed, intonation and vocabulary that you find difficult.
3. Being ready for the test
Students are made ready for what to expect on the test day and how to deal with it. You will be taught which type of questions will appear and how to systematically answer them. However, this is only achieved through consistent practice. This preparation ensures that the pupils are not scared on the test day, thus helping them to focus on the exam with a clear mind.
4. IELTS listening strategy
The IELTS Listening module test consists of a number of different questions. Every question has a different approach on how to tackle them. Global Colliance specialises in the fact that their method of teaching is exceptional and second to none with proven Tips and Strategies. With continuous practice students improve themselves to achieve a high band score, thereby making themselves confident to appear in the exam.
5. Practice Prudently
The process of completing and correcting practice papers is important and difficult. But that does not mean that you keep practising one paper after another. Listening should be done when you are fresh as it would be easier for you to concentrate. Listening is a skill that needs to be polished.
Students are provided with only authentic tests that are created by the same bodies that write the IELTS exam, if not the practice tests will not match the exam format, and create a lot of confusion and unrealistic expectations.
Make sure to complete your practice papers under the same time conditions that would take place in the exam. This will allow you to improve your time management skills, removing a whole load of stress for many IELTS test-takers.
6. Evaluation of the IELTS Listening Practice Tests
Complete authentic practice tests under exam conditions. Recognise any particular question types that caused you problems. Examine your follies. Think about why you made those mistakes. What were the particular reasons why you responded to those questions wrongly? Focus on improving the area you are weakest in first. Repeat persistently until you get your desired score.
7. Calm is the word on the exam day
Do arrive at the test centre early. A little deep breathing would be great. Read and listen to the instructions very carefully or you will throw away easy marks. Write your answers on the test paper. After the recording is over transfer your answers to the answer sheet. Write all the answers in capital letters.
